I Went To A Sevedust Show In NYC!

Sevendust has been one of my favorite bands by far. They are true road warriors and their sound reflects that. It’s heavy, rhythmic, and melodic and keeps you moving. Lajons voice is so powerful along with the hard melodic drumming and strong call-back vocals of Morgan Rose, Their sound has definitely stood the test of time. Formed in 1994 their brand of soulful melodic hard rock, mixed with powerful soulful vocals has definitely stood the test of time.

When I received the notification Sevendust was coming to Irving Plaza, I knew I had to pick up some tickets. On the day of the show, I got word of the lead singer of Clutch; the band that was headlining the tour. He fell ill that night. That was unfortunate because Clutch is another awesome band I wanted to see. However, Sevendust treated us to a full 90 min set that night.

Get a few extra bucks until payday!

I got to Irving Plaza in New York City around 9PM I was just in time to see Sevedust hit the stage. The security then alerted me after a very lax patdown that Clutch would not be playing tonight and Sevendust would be doing an extended set. I made my way through the mass of millennials crowded in the somewhat expansive hall. The floors were riddled with plastic cups and the smell of weed drifted through the air. I slid, shoved and excused my way to a pretty prime spot right up front on the right side of the stage. The view was really cool right in front of the Sevedust guitar player John Connolly.  As expected from this band. The set was awesome! (check it out!)

As soon as I arrived at the concert venue, I could feel the energy and excitement in the air. Fans of all ages and backgrounds gathered to see one of their favorite bands perform live. When the lights finally went down and the band took the stage, the crowd erupted into cheers and applause. From the first chord, it was clear that Sevendust was going to deliver an epic performance.

But it wasn’t just the music that made the concert so memorable. The light show and stage production were also top-notch, creating a visually stunning backdrop for the band’s performance.

They started with some pretty newish tunes. That is newish for me since i have been a fan since the mid 90’s so really anything past the Animosity album i would think of as somewhat new.

They started with the song Dirty (00:20), a song from the All I See Is War album released 2018. This song captures the essence of an elevated and mature Sevendust. You can hear the rhythmic guitar riffs throughout the verses. Lajons voice is so strong on this song as he belts out the chorus. This was such a strong song to start the show!

They played a few new songs and then went into the song “Pieces” (02:04) from the Next album. This song was awesome! The energy was live and the rhythm drove the song. Besides the signature drive, there was also the heavy rhythmic drops this band has become known for.

After the first few songs, they started to dive a bit deeper into their extensive catalog. They went into “Trust” (03:46)  from the Animosity album ‘which is one of my absolute favorites. This song seems to explore the mix of strong melodic vocals and still gives us a heavy chorus with drummer Morgan Rose stabbing vocals. This song reminds me alot of another song they played that night “Waffle” (11:40). Both of these songs can give you a somewhat softer side of Sevendust.

As the show went on the deeper the bad wet into their bag of tricks. They the pulled out “Denial”(07:23). This was arguably one of their biggest hits off the Home album. Again the vocal interplay between Morgan and Lajon is priceless. This song hits you so hard. Its easy to see why to energy in the room was so high.

We then got treated to the classic “Too Close To Hate”(10:45). This was a song from their self-tiled debut album back in 1997. This is one of the first songs that got me interested in the band. We get s glimpse into the early iterations of their signature rhythmic drops.

If you have been a fan of  Sevendust for any period of time, you know they had to end the show with their biggest hitter. “Bitch” (14:51) is one of their most popular songs among fans. Of course, the crowd went insane while they played this song.

Attending a Sevendust concert is an experience unlike any other. From the high-energy music to the incredible stage show, everything about the night was designed to leave a lasting impression. As a fan of the band, I couldn’t have asked for a better concert experience. It was truly a night to remember, and one that I won’t soon forget. If you ever get the chance to see Sevendust live, I highly recommend it – you won’t be disappointed!

Please enjoy this video for that epic night
