What is Status Productions?
We are Status Productions! Our goal is to bring true musical artists to the light of the world. Over the last decade, we have seen the art of music take a backseat to social media, electronic programming, and sensational imagery. It seems like somewhere along the way we have lost the idea of music being a craft and an art to be learned honed and practiced. Don’t get us wrong music is entertainment. Image has always been part of the music business and there’s is nothing wrong with electronic music. However, at the core of the music business, there has always been an artist. There has always been that person that has studied a craft and gained a beautiful skill.
For centuries these artists have been able to illustrate happiness, sadness, anger, pain, and any other emotion you can think of inside all of us with their talent. Music is truly a special language. Mozart, Beethoven, Robert Johnson, Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Whitney Houston, Metallica…..etc. Just walk down the halls of the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame. You will see some of the most amazing musical treasures this world had to offer. Ask yourself the question; Have there been or how many artists have come out to ultimate worldwide stardom over the last 15 years and have sustained ongoing success and relevance that will be able to claim a space in those hallowed halls next to the artist I have mentioned? The answer will be not many if any.
This is not only a threat to this beautiful art form, it is also a threat to our artistic culture. If you look throughout history creative culture has been a cornerstone of a healthy civilized society. The fact that we are no longer able to identify real talent in music anymore is a failure that will soon come to bear when the artist of the last great generation play their final notes. The 90’s seemingly the last great musical generation. We got artists like Biggie, Soundgarden, Alice and Chains, Mary J Bliege, Korn, The Roots…the list can go on. Even Beyonce started in the 90’s. Im not just saying this because I’m a product of this generation. The sound and the artist were just different at that time and before then. There was a presence of sound and talent that we haven’t seen since.
The Decline Of The Instrument
I know what most people will say when reading this. “The older generations will always say the music that came out during their generation was better”. The issue here is that is just not the case. I think one main difference is the fact that over the last 10 years, there has been a deep decline in instrument sales. It seems like young musicians are opting to create music using artificially crafted sounds and samples from tools like MIDI packs or MPC boards. When exploring social media, you can see people pushing buttons on a board as if they were playing an instrument. While the real instruments are actually programmed into the button that is triggering the sound. Now don’t get me wrong, I believe there is a place for all types of music. Electronic music included. There is definitely room for DJ’s and producers. However, what I am saying is this should not be the only creative tool in the musical landscape. We need craftsmen and women in this art as well. We need new sound styles and techniques. There is something to be said about that person that spent years on the edge of their bed trying to hammer out that scale or grasp a technique. A singer trying to hit that note or sing that style. The discipline of these artists to learn this language and this tool than to be able to create something original and bring it to the world. Is nothing short of beautiful and incredible for me and to you. I remember seeing a commercial advertising one of these MIDI packs. They were advertising the fact that this program can put together chord progressions and melodies just with a few drags and drops. I will tell you my heart sank when I saw this. Why did I spend all that time practicing, and learning from a different artist? Writing my own music. It almost made me feel like my whole life was wasted. It was the inspiration for starting this company. When looking at billboards’ top 20, you would be hard-pressed to find any instruments or true singers among the artist.
Bring Back The “WOW!” Factor
As a music promoter, I make it a point to listen to the Top 40. Ask yourself when was the last time you heard something a said “Wow! That’s amazing or “Wow that’s cool” or does it all seem to blend together and become somewhat interchangeable after a while? I would think the latter. However, this is not something the music-buying public ever had to think about. We were always spoiled by record companies that vetted these things for us. However, with the advent of digital music and things like streaming platforms, social media, and influencers record companies have lost their way a bit. One main hit to the record industry was the decline of Hard record sales. Besides concert tickets, record sales were the music industry’s main source of income. How now it seems to be all about the “Track” just the song. Anyone can now create and release a song worldwide. Record companies understand this. These companies were always run by businessmen and not artists. These businessmen know where their bread is buttered and how to use their money to make more money. This seems to be why rap has become the most profitable genre today. Fast turnaround. Don’t get me wrong I do understand there is music in the top 40 today that does sound really good. There are still talented artists out there. However with the state of the music business today those artists are just becoming harder to find.
Our Goals
Our goal as a company is not to judge or diminish any style of music or genre. We are here to try our best to preserve the craft of this beautiful language. Music and entertainment are important to us as you can see. We just want to do our little part to give deserving artists a hand. The music business is a rough business for artists and we always believe one hand is better than no hands. We hope the artist we show you can and have filled your life with joy and beautiful memories. The goal is to bring back that “WOW!” factor. There is nothing like it when you hear it. Our goal is to continue to bring it.
We are looking to do so much in the way of promoting new artists and artists to listen to while developing promotional and performance opportunities. Let’s create a community ad join us on our journey to find beautiful music and build this wonderful community of music and music fans. Preserve the craft! Any donation will go to the following
